Your Retirement

Personal Retirement Planning

There is more to a successful retirement than having a good retirement financial plan.

Do you have a personal retirement plan that goes beyond a financial plan? Does your plan look at your health, relationships, legal security and continuing life purpose?

A personalised workbook by consultant and former COTA (NSW) Executive Director, Neil Tucker, Building Your Retirement House (which is not about building a house but building your retirement life), sets out a simple, personal plan to work through. It challenges you to think of all of the relevant aspects of your pre-retirement planning and retirement life.

Retirement involves change - personal change - unique to you. Planning your retirement or having it thrust upon you means that you make certain assumptions and you have personal expectations - hopeful and threatening. Your plans for your retirement life will involve other people - friends and family. There is also an element of risk. You cannot tell exactly what will happen. Life is like that, even when you plan it carefully.

The workbook follows an eight point plan where YOU plan your own change management.

The headings are:

  • Security
  • Work
  • Accommodation
  • Health
  • Education
  • Recreation
  • Relationships
  • Purpose

Each chapter provides you with a chart to fill out. There is also a summary chart where you can transfer the main ideas and look at your whole plan. You can also discuss your chart with other persons.

The book costs $25 (including postage and handling).
